"The Fall of the Usher House"

This short story written by Edgar Allen Poe, is a Gothic novel. This means that the story is dark, and the location remote. There are many images that help show that the location is remote and dark. For example, "dark and intricate passages." This means that the passage ways to the house were dark, as well as the roads in the house. Fissure is another great example. The house was fissure, which means that it was about to break. This is imaginable, because in a such secluded place, nothing is stable. "Minute fungi overspread the whole exterior", is describing the outside structure of the house. Due to the fact that it is so remote, the house is starting to age.
Finally, the last example would be "the crumbling condition of individual stones." This also describes remoteness and darkness because the stones of the house are all about to break. It is obvious that nobody is taking care of the house. These all add to Gothic settings because all these adjectives describe the state of darkness. In Gothic literature, everything is old, untouched, and decaying. Darkness in Gothic literature describes decaying and remoteness. All these examples correspond with Gothic literature.

"Vaclav Havel, former Czech president who helped bring down communism, dies at 75"

This article was founded in the LA Times, and as written by the Associative Press.Vaclav Havel, the former president of Czechoslovakia died at the age of seventy five. He was a great playwriter, and with his talent he combined poltics to end communism in Czech Republic. He died Sunday morning at his vacation home, and was the first democratically elected president in Czech. He helped his country breakup peacefully with Slovakia in1993. Even out of office, he did a lot. He was part of the "newEurope", and he stood up for U.S. when it launched its attack on Iraq in 2003. He was also credited with laying the groundwork that brought Czech Repiblic into the twenty seven nation bloc.
It is sad that such a respected man died at such a young age. He did so much for his country, and he is barely even credited for it. He should be a well respected man, because his excellence helped his country become a democratic nation. If it was not for him, Czech Republic would be in a disastrous situation. I think he will recieve a military burial, and that many famous and important political leaders will be present at his funeral. It was also said, that he was a heavy smoker and that is why he passed away. He was not able to breath any longer. A death because of smoking is always sad, especially to a political leader.

"Gunman fires on motorists, others at Hollywood intersection"

"The Raven"

This piece of literature is written by Edgar Allen Poe. "The Raven" is a great piece of literature that fits in with the idea of being a Gothic poem. First of all, Poe is a Gothic author and writes about dark stories. A few examples as to why this poem is Gothic are the key words raven, December, night, and dark. Also, the entire story is dark, and revolved around a mental man and a dark raven. Gothic literature means that everything occurs in the "dark". Even the plot of the story is dark.
Saying that, the poem already starts scary when there is a tapping on the door. At first he thinks it is just the wind but then the creepy noise comes again. Therefor it means it is dark and scary. Throughout the novel, the black raven comes about and it starts talking to the man. This is called Anthropomorphism which could also be considered Gothic because these are dark thoughts that are unrealistic. In a Gothic poem, characters are in psychological and physical torment. This occurs in the poem, because the main character is psychologically ruined. He hears and sees things that are not there. It is as if he is disturbed. Finally, in Gothic literature a supernatural or other worldly element is present. In this case, it would be the raven that asked for the disturbed man's name.
