One of the greatest Prohibitions of all time occurred in the 1920's. This was the prohibition of alcohol. It was finally time for the government to set alcohol aside for good. Some of the main reasons were gang activities. Gangs started running the alcohol business, which led to violent incidents. Not only were gangs involved with violence, so were ever day citizens. Woman's Rights activists had enough of alcohol. They were one of the major supporters of the Prohibition. They said that when the men drank, it totally affected the income of the family. At this time, men drank at the factories during their lunch brakes.
This is a significant topic, because during this time period rich people would always consume alcohol. It was the perfect pass-time for them. When you were rich, you would consume the alcohol. When you were poor, you would make the alcohol. This was the obvious separation of the social classes. However, in 1929 the stock market completely crashed. The Government desperately needed money. They had to get ride of the Prohibition of alcohol. That is exactly what they did! Alcohol was a great generator of money for the government. It was extremely important for them to get the alcohol business back and running. In 1933, Roosevelts first year in office alcohol became an accepted drink to consume.
